In what was a hotly contested “Derby” game between local rivals Riverside Coras and Temecula FC, the game finished in a 1-1 result, but the scoreline bears no reflection on the manner in which the game was played.
Early pressure from the traveling side saw Temecula open the scoring with a superb counter-attack leaving Teague Anderson with the opportunity to open the score, 1-0 to the Quails. A couple of more opportunities would fall for both teams before Ramon Nunez equalised for Coras, making the most of a mix-up involving Temecula keeper Dean Meltz and midfielder Tarek Nazzal in the 37th minute to leave the game 1-1 at the break.
As the sun settled and the wind got stronger in the 2nd half, both sides had fantastic opportunities to add to their scorelines, however, a combination of great goalkeeping, superb bravery by defenders to block and just hard luck on both teams part, meant the 2nd half finished with a scoreline of 1-1. With both Head Coaches making their NPSL debuts, the rivalry between these 2 club looks set to make for a great return game in Chapparral High School later in the season. One thing is for sure, the rest of the Conference should be looking over their shoulders at both of these teams, this season.
